Is Your Business Ready for Microsoft Windows 7 End of Life?
If you are one of the nearly 40% of people still using Microsoft Windows 7, the time to act is now. Microsoft will be ending ALL support for Windows 7 in January 2020. In other words, if your Microsoft Word freezes, there will be very little you can do to fix it. If your Windows system crashes, you’re out of luck. And, most significantly, no more critical security patches will be released so you will be left with a big, gaping security hole in your operating system. Can you say security breach and business disruption?
Don’t fret. Whether you are a current customer – or not currently a customer at all – NBM will help you navigate the Windows 7 ending of an era. As we migrate our customers from Windows 7 to Windows 10, we have encountered some frequently asked questions:
• Can I migrate to Windows 8? You can, but it’s not a good idea and will cost your organization more money and time in the long run. Mainstream support for Windows 8 is no longer available and extended support will end in 2023. If you migrate to Windows 8, you will have to do a second migration a few years from now. We are advising customers to migrate directly to Windows 10 to achieve the greatest level of security and experience the least amount of business disruption.
• I have anti-virus protection on my computers. Won’t that protect me? Unfortunately, no. Without Windows critical security patches, your network is vulnerable to phishing attacks, ransomware, and other security threats.
• What are my upgrade options? There are two upgrade options: (1) upgrade your current devices with Windows 10 or (2) acquire new devices that can support Windows 10. Not all devices have the requisite system requirements for Windows 10, so the sooner NBM assesses your computer fleet and identifies any unsupportable computers that require replacement, the less business interruption you will experience.
NBM is your one-stop technology shop for all things related to the Windows 7 upgrade; we have experienced IT professionals who will assess your computer fleet, identify computers that need replacement, and upgrade the remaining fleet. No need for multiple vendors, no need to deal with Microsoft directly, no worries about compromised security and business disruption.
